Fry Bread Recipe
Last week, I posted a children’s book roundup which you can find HERE. One of the books we got was Fry Bread. We were reading the book together and it got us craving Bannok, which is a recipe from Carey’s grandmother. Liv had so much fun getting involved in the process, which prompted me to take a few photos and today I want to share the recipe with you!
This is a recipe Carey grew up eating and we will continue to make this recipe for our kids and generations to come as a reminder of Carey’s grandmother and their heritage. This book not only inspired a delicious treat, but sparked some great conversations between Carey and Liv.
ingredients
- 2 ¾ cup of white flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 ½ cup of water
inSTRUCTIONS
- Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
- Mix your shortening into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter. This will allow you to cut your ingredients into fine crumbs.
- Create a well in the dry ingredients and add your water.
- Knead your dough on a hard surface for about ten seconds. Your dough will remain softer the less you knead it, so be sure to keep it short.
- Fry your bread up and enjoy with your loved ones!
We like to mix in raisins to give our fry bread a little sweetness, but you can also choose to mix in cheese. It makes a great snack or a delicious side for dinner.
Much Love,
