Millie’s 2 Year Update

Where do I even start? This little lady is quite the character — to put it politely, she is creative, curious and energetic. This means she loves to draw, color or paint on anything and everything. She gets in to EVERYTHING. She is non-stop, on the go and never walking, always running, but we wouldn’t change a thing. She drives us nuts, but she also brings so much joy, she is always so happy and she is just so cute, I can hardly stand it.

Loves
She absolutely loves music and dancing, she is always down for a dance party. She is always singing and could carry a tune well before she could talk. She, of course, adores snacks. She is always eating and, since Halloween, is always asking for candy. “Makeup” (meaning chapstick) is all the rage right now, thanks to big sissy. Millie loves anything big sissy likes. Dinosaurs was a random one, but she loves her some dinos. She also loves barbies, it seems like she will be a well balanced little girl.

Hates
Things that are hot, or even just warm she will spit out instantly. She hates sitting at the table. I kind of blame Covid. At my parents house, her and Liv sat at their own little table, while the rest of us sat on barstools, so we have not spent a lot of time at a table together. This is something we will be working on now that we are home again.

Milestones
She doesn’t seem to have much interest in the potty training area, so we are going to have to really work with her on this. This is something I am planning on doing ASAP. She repeats everything, and I mean everything! You have to really watch your language around this one. She speaks in full sentences, counts up to 10 (ya I don’t know, we didn’t teach her, but I think she picked it up from sister). She is starting to play make believe, which is so sweet to watch!

How She Differs From Her Sister
Millie has one speed and never stops, Liv is way more chill. Liv could post up all day relaxing, watching movies and hanging out — not Millie. If we are hanging out in the house, we fully expect the house to get turned upside down. Liv is definitely a rule follower, cautious, responsible and tidy, while Millie is pretty much the opposite, she does listen well. So, it doesn’t come to her naturally to clean up her toys, but if you tell her to she usually will.

Parenting
She knows how push our buttons but I have relied heavily on my favorite parenting book, ‘Parenting with Love and Logic the Early Years’ which she responds to pretty well.

What’s Ahead
Once Lincoln moves out of our bedroom, he will be taking Millie’s nursery and Millie will be sharing a room with Liv. So, we are trying to figure out what that will look like. Purchasing another crib? Going ahead with bunk beads and transitioning Millie out of the crib?? As I mentioned before, potty training is next up on the list.

Moments I Don’t Want to Forget

  • How she says HI MAMA with the biggest smile when I go get her in the mornings.

  • When you say goodnight she will keep saying goodnight repeatedly well after you have left the room.

  • She is so good at hide and seek and will stay so quiet for long periods of time when we are hiding.

  • How she desperately wants into Liv’s room and will hang at the door just waiting for an invitation in.

  • How she lights up the room with her smile and positive attitude. It is impossible not to smile when she is around.

Much Love,
