How Often Do You Wash Your Hair?

This week on Instagram stories, I took you along to show you how I only wash my hair once a week and you can still find it in my “Hair” highlight. If your hair is on the oily side, you may not be able to jump right into just washing your once a week. If that is the case, you might need to train your hair — yes you can train your hair by spacing out your washes.

Every hair type is different and requires different care, but here are some general tips to stretch out that time between washes:

- If your hair is naturally more greasy, you can try washing with a clarifying shampoo. Shampoo your hair really well, maybe even twice while you are in the shower. This is probably not something you want to use on the regular, because it may dry out your hair.

- Only condition the ends of your hair.

- Avoid touching your hair, your hands have lots of dirt and oil on them.

- Limit the amount of products you use

- Use Dry shampoo

- Pull your hair back when you are not out

- Brush your hair, this helps distribute the natural oils from the scalp to the ends, which can help break up oil that collects at your roots.

Now that you know how to minimize the amount of washes, here are a few tips on how to maintain your style:

- Take a little more time on the blow dry and it will set you up for an easy week of styling. Give yourself a blow out which is an easy style to maintain or to work from.

- Freshen up your hair daily with a blow dryer and round brush. Pulling your hair away from the root will help the oil from building up and help with volume.

- Use a shower cap when taking body showers, the moisture from the shower can wreak havoc on your blown out do.

- Use a silk pillowcase to help fight frizz and breakage (and it is good to help prevent wrinkles on your face!)

- Change your part up a couple days in, when the top is starting to go flat and look greasy

-Give your hair a little TLC every night. Take your hair down, give it a good comb out, and add some nourishing cream to your ends.
