How We Are Handling the Coronavirus

The last few days have been one for the record books...literally! Carey said Thursday was the weirdest day of his life, heading to the rink, preparing for a game that night and then fast forward to that evening and we are sitting at home eating Boston Pizza, enjoying some wine with friends, bizarre! If you have attempted to head to Costco, then you know just how absurd things are getting, so for today's blog post, I am sharing how we are managing during this crazy time.

Preparing: I don't really understand the whole toilet paper thing, we have our normal amount and feel good about it, but we are preparing a little just in case we are too sick to make it to the grocery store, in case we have to be quarantined, or in case grocery stores have to close temporarily. I picked up just a little extra food than we normally eat and some meat to put in the freezer. Making sure we have healthy foods available, I got frozen fruit and veggies. I also made sure we had vitamins and supplements stocked up.

Food: Our family is treating this time just like we have been treating a normal flu season - eating lots of healthy foods to boost our immune systems, removing just about all added sugar from our diet, as well as refined grains and hydrogenated oils. We have lots of fruits and veggies, Costco has great frozen organic fruit options. We especially love citrus fruits, goji, berries, kiwi, cauliflower, and broccoli. I also incorporate things like miso, keifer, garlic, ginger, and bone broth to much of my cooking to keep our guts in good health.

Supplements & Vitamins: Consult your doctor before adding these to your diet, but these are the main supplements we keep on hand and take daily to keep us healthy: Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, Probiotic, and Elderberry, There are many more that can help with fighting sickness, but these are the ones our family uses.

Mental Health: Emotions can play a big role in our immune systems, so maintaining stress, anxiety and believing things will be okay and that you are doing your best to stay healthy and safe can help. With schools and daycares closed, finding a way to still have structure in our day for the girls goes a long way for my mental health. So I put together a "schedule" that we will follow during the weekdays.

Here is an example of what I am thinking:

Wake Up - eat breakfast, do chores, followed by one cartoon episode while I check emails

9:00 am - reading, playing with books

9:30 am - Nap time for Millie, Liv to work on her letters on her iPad while I work on the computer. We love THIS educational game.

11:00 am - Physical activity. This can be Kids Yoga on YouTube, going for a walk, playing outside, whatever as long as we are moving!

11:45 - Lunch Time

12:15 - Art

1:00 - 3:00 - Nap or Quiet Time in bedrooms

3:30 - Teaching, I will work with them on different topics.

4:30 - Prep Dinner, getting the girls involved as much as possible.

5:30 - Dinner

6:00 - Free Play

7:00 - Start bedtime routine

These are the steps our family is taking to make this time a bit less crazy and will attempt to keep the days as normal as possible for us and the girls. Let me know below what steps your house is taking to keep everyone healthy, happy and safe!

Much Love,
